Summer was born on the 2nd June 2000 although at this stage she wasn't called Summer. By Mompesson Classic Master at Roqfolly and out of our own Mompesson Sweet Words. She was one of two bitches in a litter of five. I preferred the litter sister, whilst Nikki insisted the one she liked was better! So just to be safe we let the sister go to friends with an agreement that 'IF' Nikki was wrong then we could show her. The rest, they say, is history! The only problem now is when we pick puppies, if there is any disagreement, Nikki ALWAYS reminds me it was her that picked Summer!!!
At her first show, she won Reserve Best Puppy In Group at six months and one day. At her first Championship Show, a week later, she was Best Puppy Bitch. When she was fourteen months, she won the Junior Bitch class at the Welsh KC Championship Show under Dawn Swales, who wrote in her critique "will be one of the top bitches in 12 months time." Two weeks later she won her first Reserve Challenge Certificate under the late Colin Jackson at the City of Birmingham Champ Show and was also second in the Pet Plan Junior Stakes under Brenda Banbury. To say we were stunned was an understatement.
Seven more first places at Open and Championship Shows followed along with a Reserve Challenge Certificate from Bob Jackson. At LKA 2001, aged eighteen months and a week, she won her first CC from Frances Jackson. At Manchester 2002, she won her second from Elizabeth Williams, and at Crufts the same year, she won her third and crowning CC from Valerie Foss. To make up your first Champion is a fantastic feeling, the fact that she was homebred only heightened the thrill and to do it at Crufts ....... amazing!!!!
She went on to win a further five Challenge Certificates and three RCC's. A Group 3 at Paington, Best In Show at the Southern ESS Society and South Western ESSC Open Shows, Reserve Best In Show at the ESSC of Wales Championship Show and Best In Show at two General Open Shows. 2003 started quietly until Crufts....winning the CC and Best of Breed from Bob Jackson. The thrill of going into the Group Ring representing your breed at the World's greatest dog show is something I will never forget.
She has been Top Bitch in 2002, 2004 and 2005.
She won the Group at Blackpool 2004 after being awarded the CC and Best of Breed by Judith Hancock.
She has won many other Group placings at Championship Shows as well as winning the day's heat of the Champion Stakes three times.
She has also won the Reserve Challenge Certificate at Crufts 2005, and the CC in 2006.
In between all this, she has produced two litters for us.
Summer is never happy when she is left behind on show day, she is an absolute joy to live with and I look forward to the day when she sleeps on the end of our bed!
