Emphasis in recent years has been on the phrase “Fit for Function”. With this in mind our canine friend must be “made” correctly enabling a day’s work in the field. They are of course beautified for the show world but never the less must be bred for their purpose. Movement of our breed is a joy for all to witness – if they are made right we can observe forward reach and drive from the rear – that all important ground covering action. A springer is noted for having a soft gentle expression from a well balanced head displaying much work. Sadly there are plain heads, flat skulls & little or no chiselling or fluting. Eye shape should be almond & colour according to coat. Consider these points for future generations.
How lovely to see the gleaming coats & super presentation; a lot of work to enhance the beauty of our breed. On such an occasion it was also complimentary to see handlers turned out as well as their exhibits!
My days judging was most enjoyable and the Crufts “Buzz” and camaraderie was apparent throughout the day. Sufficient to say I was delighted with my winners and felt humbled to judge our lovely breed. Thank you.

1st MEADOWDALE CHAOS JW SHCM (MR S & MRS J EYEINGTON) My Star of the day ! where do I start – This dog improves each time I’ve seen him & today was his day – from tip to toe or head to feet whichever way you look at it – he could do no wrong. The standard was text book & to add to that I will say his head is masculine without coarseness, his eye has darkened to give the soft, gentle expression required of our breed. He stood four square, looks and feels unexaggerated throughout. Excels in shoulder placement with the best of fronts & lovely point to shoulder. Has great body depth, nicely coupled and super width of thigh. Strength of bone & good feet. Had such ring presence in the breed and a pleasure to watch on the move. Beatifully presented . A joyous day I believe as this was his 3rd CC & BOB.
2nd ALANEA SMAX TO REUBENS JW (MRS M C DOWNWARD) A Mature L/w Dog with much to admire. Great presentation. Moved and showed well.
3rd SH CH MEADOWDALE ALABAMA SLAMMER AT ACREGATE SHCM (MISS J TRACZ) Another worthy Sh.Ch who as always was in good condition and immaculately presented.
