Darlington Bitches 12

The Darlington Dog Show Society held their championship show at Newby Hall on the 16th September where this spacious venue offered plenty of ring space and thankfully the weather on the day remained fair.
I was delighted to be invited to officiate at this enjoyable show and would like to thank all the officers, committee and my steward for their wonderful hospitality and efficiency in organising such a good show.
All the English Springer Spaniels on view were generally healthy in appearance with no obvious health concerns and appeared fit for purpose, well presented and clean though light eyes and a lack of solid muscle condition were an issue. May I thank all the exhibitors for supporting this Society and for the sporting way that my placings were received.

Class 1842 VD (4 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 5813 DOWNWARD Mrs M C Sh Ch Reubens Silent Reflection JW
Upstanding masculine L/W/T dog of good overall type and balanced conformation. His head is well defined with well set eyes and pleasing expression, good reach of neck into clean well laid shoulders, excellent front legs and feet. Presentation and general condition first class though I would prefer more rounded quarters and firmer muscle tone through his thighs, movement was sound but lacked some drive over his ground.
2nd: 5871 WATSON Ms S Mex Hight Fly Della Giuliana (imp Ita)
L/W dog of decent size, sound in body and movement and shown in excellent order, pleasing head and expression from good dark eyes, strong neck and back, good lay to shoulders though a shade short in upper arm otherwise clean well made front and tight feet, good spring of ribs and depth of body, sound shapely quarters and moderate bend of stifle, neat hocks and very good presentation, steady mover.

Best Puppy
2nd: 5795 CALVERT Mr & Mrs M Calvdale Great Escape
Stronger framed L/W puppy, he is very well made throughout his body, shoulders, quarters and thighs, maintains a level topline, eyes to darken, I preferred the head, feet and more positive movement of one.

Different type of L/W puppy, neat in size and narrower through his head and body at this stage, preferred head and overall type of one, he needs time to tighten up all round, firm, well presented and conditioned with a pleasing outlook.

Class 1845 JD (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 5848 RAWDING Mr R & Mrs R Dukedel Dream Of Mine
Most pleasing for type and size, typical well worked head with clean jowl, eyes to darken though well set, this L/W has a lovely unexaggerated outline, strong well arched neck, clean tidy shoulders, front and feet, excels strength and shape of quarters and thighs with good short hocks and driving movement, just requires more confidence, well presented and conditioned.
2nd: 5815 GANARIN Mrs B Berkenbar Genepi
Shade taller and rangier L/W, pleasing expression, clean in neck and shoulders with decent front and level topline, just requires to drop and develop in body and was not as positive moving around compared to one, again very well presented and turned out.

Class 1846 PGD (10 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 5873 WILLEY Mr K E & Mrs W J Speeton Sea Challenger
Stood out in this class, this L/W has a very typical and well balanced springer stamp in outline, his masculine head has all refinements required, excels well set dark eyes and expression, spring of ribs and depth of body, strong broad quarters, muscular thighs and moderately bent stifles, enough angulation in front with ample bone though feet are rather untidy, moved with sound enthusiasm and well carried head.

Head and expression may not be his fortune, however that said and standing in the shake-up, this l/w has more than enough to commend him from the neck back, grand clean strong neck, spring of ribs, forechest and upper arm, firm level back held throughout his sound driving movement from powerful well rounded quarters and broad bulging thighs, good head and tail carrage. Shown in great weather resisting coat condition and rock solid muscle tone.

This stylish L/W simply flowed around the big ring covering his ground with sound driving animation, well carried head and excellent lively low set tail action and full extension, good size and overall type, masculine head and expression from well set dark eyes, clean and well made throughout with excellent conformation. Moderate angulation in front and rear, good forehand with tight rounded feet, glistening coat condition, hard muscle tone, a good all round springer moving and showing well to merit RCC.
2nd: 5836 LARGE Miss S D Mompesson Flawless Is Madaza
Same owner as second in previous class this L/W dog also appeals for his super firm condition and muscle tone, must be using spinach!, good size and general type, very well balanced from nose to tail, pleasing head and depth of flew though his dark eyes are set a shade wide for true appeal, otherwise a sound active dog of high merit with good action on the move and very well presented and handled.

Top quality compact L/W dog from this consistent kennel, very sound, well proportioned, great overall balance and true to type, excels head, expression, clean neck, shoulders, front assembly, feet and ribs. His body development and coupling to broad well rounded quarters, low set tail, broad well developed thighs and short hocks complete this first class springer. Well shown in great order presenting a lovely image of sound free and easy powerful driving movement with full extension, CC.
2nd: 5791 ALLEN, Mr A C & BOTT Mr R P Sh Ch Trimere Talking Point Of Allenie JW
A most worthy champion and one that I have previously admired. L/W dog masculine in outlook with the very best of shoulders and upper arm assembly where he scored above a worthy third dog. Flowing strong neck and excellent straight clean well boned front legs and tight well rounded feet, ribs are deep and well sprung though I preferred coupling and firmer muscle tone through quarters and thighs of one, again displays driving movement with good side gait though a little down on presentation underneath today.
