Welcome to the

Southern English Springer Spaniel Society

Serving the South for 60 years

The formation of an English Springer Spaniel club in the South of England was a much needed boost to ESS owners in London and the surrounding Home Counties soon after peace was declared in 1945

Formed on 23rd October 1946 the Society serviced the needs of an ever expanding, already popular breed. The organisation offered both dormant show and working ESS the opportunity of competition

In 1974 it was decided to create a new name for the club that endeavoured to encompass the whole of the South in its area of activity; so the Southern English Springer Spaniel Society was established.

Our current membership has expanded to over 300, including many overseas patrons. Members receive a free Year Book which has grown to a massive 250+ pages and includes ESS from all over the world. We also run a merchandise stand at Crufts encompassing the famous “Southern Shop”, along with organising and supporting the Discover Dogs exhibition at Earls Court.

Testing for hereditary disease is offered at our large championship show in February, with a more relaxed open show in September. The Society also produces a biannual Newsletter, “The Southern Line” which includes all the news and views of the Society, along with chit chat, articles and advice on the breed.

Our hard working committee are enthusiastic about making the Southern English Springer Spaniel Society a dynamic and versatile organisation and trust you will enjoy the following pages which are dedicated to our wonderful breed.
