LANCS & CHESHIRE CHAMP SHOW 18

Judge Edith Rose

I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of Lancashire & Cheshire English Springer Spaniel Club for inviting me to judge our lovely breed. The small hardworking committee pulled out all stops in finding a lovely new venue and enticing a quality entry for me to assess. It was a great atmosphere and to that I would like to thank all the exhibitors who accepted my decisions in a sporting manner.
I thought the quality overall was of high standard, especially in the top end classes where I could have awarded a handful of CCs in both sexes. I was looking for true ‘springer’ movement where the ‘forelegs swing straight forward from the shoulder, throwing the feet well forward in an easy free manner’, which I am sad to say is lacking in our breed nowadays. This for me is quintessential and such a shame that we are losing it. I was also looking for correct balance with substance but no exaggeration and a classical springer head. All this I am pleased to say was found in my principal winners.

1st: CLARK Mrs C, VAREY Mrs J Tigerrock Radio Gaga (TAF) 10 month old B/W and what a lovely puppy, there is nothing overdone or exaggerated about him, portrays balance and quality. He has a gorgeous head with dark eyes and the most melting expression, strong arched neck set on well laid shoulders, he is short over loin and stands on the best of feet and has strong bone. He was presented in beautiful coat and condition and on the move, he was very sound and collective for one so young, driving from his short hocks and muscular hindquarters. Good luck in the future with him. BPD
