I was genuinely humbled & honoured to judge this lovely entry, & thank all exhibitors for coping with the heat & taking care of their hot dogs; for me, two elements of the Standard, the head & movement, epitomise the uniqueness of our breed. I am a real sucker for a well balanced & chiselled ESS head with a soft expression that would melt the stoniest heart, but today many head shapes were varied &, even allowing for the effect of bright sunshine, eye colour was often lighter than the desired dark hazel; some exhibits moved agonisingly close behind, & a number showed way too much "daylight" between ribs & elbow. That said, many virtues were on show to be appreciated, leading to some thought-provoking & occasionally surprising decisions. A great thrill to select my CC & RCC winners from line-ups of beautiful dogs & bitches. Never was the wording on the RCC - "worthy of being awarded the CC should the CC winner be disqualified" - more apt, with all four principal winners more than worthy of their titles.

1st: 2341 EASTWOOD Ms D Eastfalla Ere I Am
Well grown 7 months B/W, compact & well bodied, head shows promise although a little fine in comparison to the rest of her at this stage, dark eye, excellent length of neck into well-laid shoulders, very good front angulation, already deep in chest with good spring of rib, well coupled with good width & length of loin, showing a lot of strength in the rear for age, plenty of bend of stifle, moved steadily & had fun
2nd: 2335 CORBETT Mrs A E Trimere Ta Dah
Really liked this 8 months L/W, so neat & compact in outline, pretty & ultra feminine, preferred her nicely balanced head shape to 1, eye still to darken, lovely length of neck leading to a well constructed front, not as mature as 1 in the body at present, with a little less depth in chest & more tucked-up in loin, correct moderate bend of stifle, strong in hindquarters, moved steadily & happily.

10 months L/W, dark liver jacket in immaculate condition, eye-catching & balanced outline, good size, compact & strongly built throughout, attractive head with plenty of work in it, dark eye giving her a kind expression, lovely neck leading smoothly into correctly angulated front, deepest of chests, plenty of rib, very strong in loin, more than enough rear angulation, super-strong hindquarters, exuberant mover, wagging so hard it sometimes throws her off track, very well deserved BPIB
2nd: 2384 MORGAN Mr & Mrs K L & M E Arramow Athena
10 months L/W, not the coat & condition of 1 & not as forward at this stage, honest type of bitch making a pleasingly unexaggerated shape, pretty & feminine head although would prefer a little more strength in back-skull, good length of neck, good front angulation, plenty of strength & depth in body & loin, good length of back, well developed hindquarters, moderate bend of stifle, moved a little close behind, just needs time

1st: 2381 MITCHELL Mr & Mrs D & J Peasblossom Moonstruck
Stunning B/W who commands attention for her strength and compact shape, smart & shining coat, wonderful classic feminine & well-proportioned head, another with dark liquid pools for eyes, excelled in neck, balanced front & rear angulation, deep chest, very well-ribbed, strong & deep in loin, good bone, well-developed hindquarters, correct length of back, really appreciated her many qualities, considered for top awards, moved enthusiastically, just with a slight roll
2nd: 2346 EYEINGTON Mr & Mrs S & J Kingsheath Kaitlyn Of Meadowdale
Pleasing B/W who just could not match 1 for overall balance & sheer style today, appreciated her size & honest workmanlike shape, very pretty feminine head & kind expression, sufficient length of neck, strong & deep enough in body, good ribs, strong bone, preferred front angulation & length of loin of 1, good width & strength in hindquarters, plenty of bend of stifle, moved ok, will come together with more maturity

1st: 2342 EASTWOOD Ms D Roqfolly Miss Moneypenny JW
L/W, very attractive bitch with many virtues, liked her compact strong outline, head was nicely shaped in skull but would benefit from a touch more strength & depth in muzzle, strong neck of good length into very well constructed front, deep in body, firm topline & good length of back, well-coupled, well developed hindquarters, nicely balanced rear angulation, which showed in her fluid movement, neatly presented, just a little short of coat
2nd: 2336 CORBETT Mrs A E Trimere Teresa Green
Appealed for size, racy & compact shape, in shining coat & condition, well-boned, stronger in head than 1 but nicely proportioned, strong neck of good length, impressed with her well-balanced front and rear construction, great strength in hindquarters, all of which contributed to her powerful driving movement, just found her lighter in body & frame than 1 who is almost 12 months older, so feel she has time on her side

1st: 2365 JACKSON Mr & Mrs R & F Mompesson Legacy
L/W/T, probably the biggest surprise of my day, but what a marvellous one, made a huge impression, first with her excellent unexaggerated construction, correct size, compact & strong outline, pretty & well-proportioned head, kind expression, lovely neck flowing into correct front angulation, deep chest with tight elbows, huge spring of rib, firm topline, well-coupled, strong hindquarters, second with her powerful accurate movement, the more I looked at her the more I loved her, drawn to her time & time again in the challenge, no denying her the CC amidst some strong challengers, up against the Dog CC winner she was oblivious to the heat & drove round the ring unfalteringly, earning her BOB, thank you for the privilege of judging her
2nd: 2392 ROSE Mrs E Rosannoch Fortuna JW
L/W, taller & heavier built bitch who nevertheless fills her frame well & retains good balance overall, nicely proportioned & feminine head, neck of good length & strength, very well constructed in front, deep body & tremendous spring of rib, longer in loin than 1 & not as firm in topline, very strong hindquarters with moderate bend of stifle, good positive mover

1st: 2373 MCCOURT Mr K & Mrs L Woodspa Royal Ascot
L/W, old fashioned, honest & unexaggerated type, liked her size & compact shape, in shining coat & condition, still young, but has a well-developed head of classic proportions which I preferred over 2, dark eye & kind expression, strong neck of sufficient length, deep enough in body, plenty of rib, well-coupled, nicely developed hindquarters & moderate bend of stifle, moved easily & enthusiastically, happy & coped better than many with the heat
2nd: 2350 GLENDINNING Ms F Beaters Bedazzled
L/W, feminine & mature bitch with much to offer, well presented & in good coat, eye-catching flowing & racy outline, initially thought she might be my winner, but on closer inspection preferred head shape & strength of muzzle of 1, strong bone, lovely neck, correct front angulation, good depth of body & strong in loin, firm topline, very well developed hindquarters, plenty of rear angulation, could not match 1's enthusiasm on the move today

Saved one of the best until last, this ultra feminine L/W has so many qualities that I admire, loved her correct size & neat, compact shape with the right amount of raciness, presented in good coat & condition, completely in love with her beautiful well-balanced head & kind expression, dark eye, lovely bone, strong neck flowing into correct front assembly, strong & deep in body & loin, good spring of rib, firm topline, good in hindquarters with plenty of rear angulation, moved well with enthusiasm, a truly heart-wrenching decision in the challenge, with the final "x" factor being the outstanding movement of the eventual CC winner, real honour to award her the RCC, hope she continues to flourish as she deserves
2nd: 2366 JACKSON Mr & Mrs R & F Mompesson Paper 'n' Lace
L/W, really liked her size, overall impression was one of strength & balance, very sturdily built throughout, no exaggerations anywhere, different type of head to 1, but very pretty & in proportion, strong neck, tremendous forechest, good front angulation, deep chest, huge rib cage, muscular loin & hindquarters, correct moderate bend of stifle, perhaps feeling the heat a little, but this did not stop her powering round the ring with real drive

Have admired this stylish 7 years L/W bitch throughout her career, pleasure finally to judge her, upstanding, racy & balanced outline, feminine head, dark eye & kind expression, good in front, depth of chest & length of neck, well coupled & nicely angulated in rear, showing her age just a little in rear movement, but great front extension, still a merry mover & showed herself off right to the end to take Best Veteran
2nd: 2419 WILSON Mr P S & Mrs M A Meadowdale Venus At Cassapple
Tough choice to make between these 2 as I have long appreciated this 7 years B/W for her old-fashioned unexaggerated type, lovely size & compact shape, really loved her pretty & feminine head, nicely balanced with the most beautiful dark eye & expression, strong neck, sufficient front angulation, lovely deep body, good ribs, deep & strong in loin, correct moderate bend of stifle, good width of thigh, rear not quite as rounded as 1, moved with enthusiasm
