Very nice entry awaited me with some very pleasing exhibits with lovely qualities. I was disappointed to find many young dogs with very broad heads with strong back skulls, very broad strong muzzles and thick heavy flews. Eyes on many through the classes were very ROUND and starring, light amber yellowish in colour, totally undesirable. Our breed standard calls for medium, almond shaped, dark hazel, kind expressive eyes. Coarseness in body build has over taken raciest of build, well muscled in some cases but others with thighs you can finger tip touch through the skin. Well boned has become bone that is thick and heavy with large untypical feet. The recommended standard height is approximately 20inches a give of 1 or 2 inches either way but surely not 3 or 4 inches which looks like heading to be the norm in both sexes. A sloping shoulder does not mean the whole top line slopes downwards to the croup, we should have a firm level topline. Layback of shoulders and upper arm development is fast being lost, therefore true English Springer movement is nearly gone, lacking the true movement of his own with swing from the shoulder and drive from the hock so that the dog looks to be effortlessly covering the ground not the evident short, fast, sharp or Terrier movement which people are believing to be the breeds correct movement. It is up to Breeders devoted to the Breed to watch how the breed is developing as we are the custodians of its future. I‘ll stop the ranting.

won his place on his better head balance, correct stop enough chiselling, nice ear set and eye colour that will darken. Good length of neck into sloping shoulders and level top line. I found this boy to be unbalanced at present needing more length of leg to compliment his body length. His good body depth and well sprung ribs do make him look even shorter on the leg. Well presented and textured coat with nice feathering. Little steep in upper arm, would like more depth of chest, nice return of stifle short hocks would have liked more ground coverage and throw from the shoulder and drive from the hocks

at present this youngster is plain in head with little chiselling, lacking correct stop with round light eyes. Enough neck to shoulder, little steep in upper arm, correct return of stifle and for age good muscle tone. Is unbalanced at present being too long in the leg for his length, strong in bone and big feet for his age. Well bodied and coated and presented in lovely condition. Decided to play his owner up on the move but once settled had a better stride and swing than my winner. Hope he settles into himself as he develops.

SHIPWRECKED three dogs of such different heights. This very smart youngster of correct height to length presenting a lovely outline on the stance and move. Head balance and being well chiselled was one of the things that helped him to win the class, nice eye shape and a dark colour coming. Excellent depth of chest and brisket, good upper arm angulations, firm level topline to tail well carried. Well bodied with spring of rib well back to short loin, a smart l/w jacket with feathering coming. Good return of stifle and well muscled, nice short hocks and well boned legs would have likes smaller rounder feet. Best class mover with good forward swing and drive from the rear and sound BPD

this upstanding dog I hope has stopped growing, from across the ring this is such a smart looking dog presented to perfection in a lovely textured L/w/tan coat with impressive feathering. His head although balanced is a bit strong for me and lacks a little in chiselling, eyes are round and light, good arch and length to neck set into well laid shoulders with firm top line to tail. Steeper in upper arm, lacking in depth of chest, well boned legs, nice pasterns, and good tight feet. Lovely bodied dog with good spring of rib, little long in loin. Enough return of stifle well muscled. Although he covers the ground fast and is sound would like more throw and drive, well handled.

biggish boy but well balanced being of the same height to length very strong well muscled with lots of power in his makeup. Well balanced masculine head little strong in skull but with dark expressive eyes and good chiselling, strong correct neck length into well laid back shoulders, firm level backline over and deep well ribbed back body of depth, best depth of chest and nice straight well boned legs and tight feet. Moderated bend of stifle well muscled, short well boned hocks. Well presented and conditioned l/w coat with nice furnishings. Moved out well with Springer drive, could be moved faster to get full advantage of his action which was sound.

very impressive dog across the ring, slightly smaller than my winner but not quite the overall balance. Masculine head well marked L/w/tan, strong in back skull with little too much stop, eyes are kind and have expression but are a little round. Enough chiselling. Lacking in upper arm angulations. Would like more moderation in stifle. Lovely body well ribbed back and well presented coat in super condition. Excellent straight well boned legs and round padded feet. Moves out well but short strides.

this dog presents a nice balanced outline on the stance but does not have the depth of chest or body of my winner. Good Springer size with overall balance being of nice height to length. Masculine head of good shape, nicely chiselled and with fluting and kind well shaped dark eyes. Arched well muscled neck of length clean throat, level top line and correct set of tail. Lovely spring of rib, body well coated with nice flat L/w jacket in nice condition. Well boned legs and feet, did stand and move a little wide at elbow today but has ground cover, positive sound rear movement.

having judged this dog in groups I was delighted to see him enter under me today to judge him against others of the breed. At this time he looks to be one of our best dogs for overall balance breed type and construction. Really typy masculine head with medium almond shaped eyes, being critical I would like them a little darker. Super chiselling and fluting, correct stop, long lobular ears well furnished. Moderate length of neck well muscled nice sloping shoulders and firm level backline to well set on and carried tail. Great body proportions with lovely depth and well sprung ribs well back with short loin. Presentation was excellent today with close fitting l/w coat in excellent condition, lovely feathering. Correctly angulated upper arm and shoulder, nice straight well boned forelegs elbows well in and tight round feet. Nice moderated turn of stifle with muscle tone, short hocks, today moved with great stride and swing from the shoulder and drive with soundness from the rear. Pleased to award CC BOB.

another stunning male being well balanced of correct height to length. Super head shape good skull and foreface balance, with lovely chiselling and flat cheeks, kind eyes of good shape, strong well muscled arched long neck into correct lay back of shoulder, firm top line although straight was sloping away to his tail today. Great body substance with depth, super spring of rib well back to a short loin. Well presented and conditioned L/W jacket with nice feather. Fraction steep in upper arm but with good depth to chest, well muscled stifle with correct return. Straight well boned legs, flexible pasterns and tight feet, short hocks. Strong powerful sound mover who covers the ground with correct stride and drive. Well handled just unlucky to meet winner on form.RCC
