I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the MESSS for inviting me to judge their Open Show and for their first class organisation and warm hospitality throughout. I was thrilled to have had such a good entry, and I thank all the exhibitors for their support. Some dogs that took my eye from a distance disappointed on closer inspection. In particular, I saw far too many light eyes and plain heads, lacking the fluting and chiselling that for me is so much a part of true ESS breed type. Overall, however, I was very pleased with my winners.

1st Gregory'sARCADIA ATOM IC
Liked him for size, deep compact body, sufficient length of neck, good bone and feet. Masculine head, but for me a little too deep in stop. Strong, well angulated rear end, sounder on the move than 2, which won him this class.
2nd Willey 's CALVDALE ASK NO QUESTIONS JW
Preferred her head to 1, but she tended to move close behind and a little wide in front. Level topline, muscular neck, moderate rear angulation, standing on excellent feet.

1st Jackson MOMPESSON STATESMAN
A raw puppy at 8 months, but his excellent make and shape were clear to see. Balanced outline, super length of neck and well placed shoulders, very good bone and substance throughout. Strong quarters, showed plenty of scope and enthusiasm on the move. A little loose in front at the moment and his eyes need to darken, but it’s early days and he has the makings of a quality dog.
2nd Lockhart's CHETRUDA SECRET ASSET
Up to size but balanced throughout, with good length of neck, lovely deep body, level topline, well coupled, very good bone and feet. Correct rear angulation without exaggeration, moved well enough, but needs to tighten a little in front. His head needs to break and his eyes to darken, but as with 1, time is very much on his side.

1st Calverts CALVDALE GREAT ESCAPE
Very mature for his 14 months, he already looks close to the finished article. Masculine with great substance all through, his outline is proportionate and pleasing. Lovely deep body with well sprung ribs, excellent length of neck and good shoulder placement, moderately angulated stifles and strong quarters, which he used well on the move. Strong masculine head with deep square flews, his eyes are the correct almond shape but need to darken.
2nd Cokels CARLYQUINN CAN’T WAIT
I liked his overall balance and breed type. My notes say “just needs time” and I’m sure that will be the key for him, as he has all the essentials. Lovely clean neck, well placed shoulders, good upper arm return, excellent bone and the best of feet. Just needs to develop and drop in body. Preferred his head to 1, but he lost out on maturity and could have been just a bit livelier on the move.

2nd Lilly's EASTRIDING CAVALLI AT FREEWAY
Another of decent make and shape, with nothing exaggerated. Reasonable length of neck, level topline, good depth of chest, moderately bent stifles, excellent legs and feet, moved OK. Masculine head, correct eye shape, although (as with so many others) I would like to see them darken a little as he fully matures.

1st Drinkall's MOMPESSON TRIBUTE TO ESSCROFT
Upstanding, flashy l/w/t dog, I liked his overall type and in particular preferred his head to 2. Well proportioned muzzle and skull, pleasing eye and expression. Deep body, good spring of rib, doesn’t want to carry any more weight around the neck and shoulders as he will tend to look front loaded. Nicely angulated at the rear, well let down hocks, moved soundly.
2nd Jenkinson EASTRIDING ARMANI DIAMONDS
Thought he would be my winner when he first entered the ring, but unfortunately I found his head to be disappointingly plain. He absolutely excels in length of neck and shoulder placement, straight front, good depth of body, well coupled and was beautifully presented. Tended to move a little close behind.

Really impressed by this young b/w, I particularly liked his size and balanced outline, with everything in proportion. Strong neck, very good depth of body and well sprung ribs, straightest of fronts, correct bend of stifle, super bone and truly great feet. I loved his refined yet masculine head, his beautiful dark eyes and the kindest of expressions. He was very sound on the move, but being critical, I would just like to have seen a little more development of second thigh. Res BD.
2nd Geddes TRYHARD PRIVATEER AT DEBANZA
L/w/t dog, well proportioned appealing head with correct chiselling and soft expression, which won him his place here. Rangier in build than 1, clean neck of good length, decent depth of brisket, would prefer more width in hind quarters and lacked a little in finish.

1st Happs JOROBADEN ALDERNITI OF EMIANNA JW
Well constructed dog of correct size, deep body with plenty of lung room, level topline, straight front, very well coupled, standing on good legs and feet. Well proportioned head, eyes were correct almond shape but they could be darker. Moved reasonably well, although a little close behind, and I felt today he could have carried just a fraction less weight to good advantage.
2nd Gregory's ARCADIA ATOMIC FORCE
Appealing head, with well proportioned skull and foreface, correct fluting, good eye shape and kind expression. Decent length of neck, straight front, deep compact body, good bone and feet, but his topline tended to fall away a little at the back, and I would have preferred to see more scope on the move.

He really looked impressive here, shown in peak condition and presented beautifully. Classic ESS head with lovely fluting and dark hazel, almond shaped eyes giving him the softest of expressions. Clean neck flowing into level topline, correct tailset, great substance in body and bone, moderate rear angulation, moved soundly with drive. His overall image was one of balance, symmetry and masculinity, without coarseness or exaggeration, and I was very pleased to award him BD and RBIS.
2nd Bashforth ALANEA WARRIOR OF JOROBADEN
L/w/t dog with nicely balanced head, correct eye shape and pleasing expression. Decent enough length of neck and shoulder placement, but would benefit from a tidying up of coat particularly over neck and shoulders, to give him a cleaner outline. Good proportions to body, well turned stifles, moved OK.
