could not deny this boy the class today. It is really hard to believe that he is 11 years old. He carries his age so well although I must say I opened his mouth and quickly closed it again! He had more teeth the last time I looked in there! This boy still has a balanced head with a kind gentle expression. He has kept his body well and his neck is still strong. He carried himself proudly and moved with a bit more “ummph” than his competitors to secure his place today.
2nd SH CH REUBENS SILENT REFLECTION JW (MRS M C DOWNWARD)
smart dog who is just into veteran. Shown in super coat and condition. Presents a balanced picture. Everything in moderation. Just found him a little broader in back skull than my winner and although his movement was sound, he did not move with the animation of 1) today.

well I wish he would! I’ll help him dig a tunnel to my house any day! This one is going to be a stallion of a dog. No mistaking his gender whatsoever. Made me smile as he sauntered into the ring as if he owned it. Oozing quality from tip to toe. Presented to perfection. Kind masculine, balanced head which will only be enhanced when his eyes darken a shade. Great neck into shoulder, super, quality bone, plenty of it without being course or too heavy. Plenty of body and well ribbed back. Great quarters with tremendous width to the thighs. Super turn of stifle enabling him to drive off well with power to spare. So promising, I wish him well. BPIB.

1st PEASBLOSSOM JESTER (MR & MRS D & MR K MITCHELL & PAYNE)
another super, quality puppy boy which can only be good for the breed overall. Built on different lines to my previous class winner but still as an exciting a prospect as the minor puppy. Loved his clean outline in profile, especially good from neck into shoulder. Stands true when viewed from the front. Quality, unexaggerated, bone and tight feet. Balanced head but again his expression will be enhanced when his eyes darken a touch. Impressive sound quarters with super turn of stifle. Moved really well here in the class but lost it in the challenge as he acquired a new handler and didn’t give his best performance. Paid the penalty and gave his younger competitor the edge.
2nd ARRAMOW ADVENTURER (MR & MRS R J & E C BOOLE)
not as mature as 1 and not demonstrating the ring presence of the winner. But it is only early days and I’m sure he will gain in confidence as he gets out and about. Built on a smaller frame than 1). Pleasant head. Enough depth but his ribs do need to spring. Time is on his side. Moved with enthusiasm.

1st DEXBENELLA TIME TO DREAM (MR S & MRS W WALKER)
well this boy looks like he could stand with “the big boys” as he is so mature for his age and dripping in coat to boot. Flashy dog who really catches the eye. He is a quality boy but doesn’t do a great deal to help his handler which must be so frustrating. Been there, worn the T-Shirt. Has a pleasing head but would benefit from a little more width in his muzzle. Has a lovely kind eye and soft expression. Very compact body with strength over the loin due to strong couplings. Sound quarters with decent turn of stifle. Stands on the best of feet. Good bone. Short from point of hock to ground. Would love to take this young lad over the fields and watch him stride out. Here today, in a “busy” environment he lacked enthusiasm on the move and didn’t reach as well as he could in front. Just failed to relax and “sell himself” enough. Pity as this contributed to his placing in the next class.
2nd PETRANELLA BEDAZZLED BY HARVANCOURT (MRS J A & MISS G L MURRAY & BERRY)
smart tri boy of pleasing type. Masculine, balanced head, decent neck into shoulder but would prefer a better return of upper arm. Pleasing height to length ratio. Enough bone and good feet. Moved soundly with drive from the rear. Just not as mature as 1) as yet.

21 months old, lovely old fashioned type with a pleasing outline. Liked him just didn’t love him like I did the puppy. Correct sized boy with sufficient bone and reasonable feet. His head was a touch plain for me and his skull is a little flat but really impressed with his strong body, depth of brisket and super spring of rib. Moved well on a powerful stride with a wagging tail to finish off the picture.

Super dog with a pleasing outline. So easy on the eye. Really liked him, Masculine without being overdone in any way. Just right for his age. Impressed by his balanced height to length ratio and the way he stood over his ground. Has a super clean, long lean neck flowing well into shoulder. Enough depth, more would be better! Great bone, plenty of it without any trace of coarseness. His head is masculine and he has a kind expression from correctly shaped eyes but they do need to darken. They will. Lovely spring of rib and plenty of strength over the loin. Great quarters which he can use to advantage. Like with 2) didn’t really like the cramped conditions, would have loved to see them both in a more spacious ring to do themselves more justice.

1st TIVERSTONE CHORISTER BOY (MR M J & MRS J V SHOVEL)
lovely boy of a super, correct size. Shown in a super smart black and white jacket. Very typical of what this kennel produces. This boy has a masculine head with the best of eye colour. Strong neck. Impressive bone all round. Loved his true front with great legs and feet. Strength over the couplings and a correct turn of stifle enabled this boy to move round the ring with drive and purpose, covering the ground with ease. Liked him.
2nd TRIMERE TIME TRAIL WITH SANDIEBECK (MRS M & MR S WILDSMITH)
this boy was hard to assess as sadly his handler was not getting the best from him today. He really is a dog you need to go over before you pass judgement. Firstly he is a lovely type of springer with pleasing height to length ratio. Has a pleasing head with a masculine, soft kind expression enhanced by a super kind eye. He has a decent neck into shoulder, good spring of rib and great turn of stifle. Carrying just about the right weight today. Don’t let him get any broader in the beam!

What a cracking class this was. Some lovely dogs left without a card which to me, doesn’t seem fair at all. Really was splitting hairs on some of the placings. Well today a super boy won, followed hot on his heels by some strong contenders. Another day could see them in a different order that’s for sure.

1st PEASBLOSSOM CHANCE JW (MR & MRS D MITCHELL)
glorious outline on this masculine but stylish young man. Really excels in neck into shoulder with such a good front assembly. As a youngster thought his head might get too strong. Well it didn’t! Today he has a kind expression aided by lovely eye colour. Great body proportions, enough depth of body and strength over the couplings. This boy is in tip top condition and the exercise he obviously gets pays off as he is really nicely muscled all through and looks like he could go all day in the field. Good looking and fit, just what I look for in any male in his prime!
2nd DEXBENELLA IT'S ABOUT TIME JW SHCM (MR S & MRS W WALKER)
different stamp of a dog all together. As were others in the class, put down to perfection. Smart as paint. Loved his front bone into super tight feet. Fell for his head with a kind, inquisitive expression. Deep bodied boy who is close coupled. Has powerful movement when viewed from behind. Had the edge over 1) in that respect but preferred 1)’s front extension. I suppose if all the best bits were just on one dog we would just clone it and not bother with the rest! Loved these boys but ultimately preferred the overall balance of the winner. Would have preferred this one to stand over slightly more ground but cannot deny that he has quality stamped all through.

this was the surprise of the day as I didn’t think this boy would be entered under me. So glad he put in an appearance! This dog is like a fine wine or single malt. He has just got better and better with age. I’d like to know the secret! This dog is unexaggerated in any way and is hard to fault really. For me, I found his head to be balanced with such expressive eyes and an enquiring, honest and alert expression. The fact that I would prefer it to be a little more masculine has to be put to one side as, thinking about it logically, that type of head probably wouldn’t suit him. Such a strong, reachy neck on him into clean refined shoulders which are correctly angulated. I must say that his handler today, really gets the best out of him as he is a bit of a fidget and his outline can distort once the feet start moving! What a git! He has a super forechest which cups into your hand upon examination and clean, straight front limbs which run into neat and tidy feet. Super depth of body and just the correct amount of back length for me. Well muscled quarters assist him to power round on the move with style and purpose. Not only was his action free and easy, it exemplified true springer movement as it was economic, ground covering and free from exaggeration. Special boy indeed. CC and BOB
2nd SH CH CALVDALE FALSE ARREST ( MRS J & MISS J A GUY)
I was very disappointed with this dog the last time I judged. He was at home! I loved him the first day I saw him as a puppy at a club open show and nothing he has done has changed my opinion. I have stood in classes with him where he should have won but didn’t, most likely down to his then handler not getting the most out of him. Sometimes a change of hands works a treat, as in this case. He is all male from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail. His head is masculine with a kind dark eye. His neck into shoulder is text book and he has a great front assembly. Like the class winner, plenty of forechest and something to fill your hand. Loved “the bit in the middle”, deep and compact with substance and strength. Well ribbed back into strong loins. Nicely angulated rear. Loved the overall outline on this dog. All male whilst retaining style, refinement and elegance. Today his normally perfect coat was just lacking the lustre required for the top spot. RCC.

this boy is presented to perfection. First class. A credit to his handler. He is breathtakingly smart. He is perhaps a shade tall and a little racier than some but the overall impression is very easy on the eye. Has a kind, masculine head and expression, Acceptable length of neck, and clean, straight front limbs. He scores in depth of body and is strong over the loin. The rapport between dog and handler is clear. Moved on a free and easy stride today but lacked power in the somewhat restricted ring. Needs to have more space to do himself justice.
