With 146 dogs entered of which 22 were absent it was a superb entry that awaited me and game me such pleasure to assess. There is nothing to compare with the excitement of running your hands over a fit, workmanlike animal and finding everything as it should be. For the most part I felt that some of the exaggerations of the past were fading away. Very few coarse or long sickle hocks (used in the old fashioned sense) or exaggerated length in the rear quarters producing those seductively stylish moving specimens but alien types that could not stand balanced. Let no-one be afraid to declare that we still produce a proper Springer, free from artifice and consistently some of the best in the world. Sadly, here some good ones had to go card less, bitches particularly. Despite the intermittent showers I elected to judge outside to take advantage of the spacious ring and natural light and thank exhibitors and committee alike for making this feasible. A superior youngster who well deserved the BP spot 2 Glendinings' Plaiglen Sea of Stars Good sized, likeable exhibit of good basic make and shape, preferred neckline of winner but while puppyish on the move was sound and should develop well. Winner is full of type, stands balanced from any angle, pleasing head qualities, good length of muzzle, correct stop, smashing expression, good front assembly with correct bone, angulation and forechest, strong backline and loin, shapely quarters, moved freely and accurately fore and aft. 2 House' Gleadsbury Whatacracker JW Sh CM really appealing, honest dog, good to go over, has all the essentials and is consequently sound as a bell, pleasing head of correct make and shape and good outlook generally 3 Glenndinnings Plaiglen Mars 4 Jacksons' Mompesson Striker OD 7 (2) 1 Mitchells Nord Sh Ch Barecho Hold Your Horses at Peasblossom JW (imp) What a treat to judge such lovely exhibits, this classy dog is very special, so correct throughout and free from exaggeration, most beautifully moulded head, dark correctly shaped eye giving that kind, alert expression exemplifying how a true Springer looks at one, I would not change the smallest thing and to see this dog move is to have ones expectations met with interest, smooth free and ground covering efficiency, stylish but fundamentally workmanlike CC and RBIS. 2 Corbetts Sh Ch Trimere Thriller Unlucky to meet winner, this is a very superior dog as well, handsome and good in head qualities, beautifully made with lovely bone, body and angulation, as good standing as moving and put down in superb condition he was well deservedly my RCC winner 3 Rose's Rosannoch Eihwaz JW 4 Notley's High Score Xciting Xperience (imp) SBD 8 1 Notley's High Score Xciting Xperience (imp) Racy, active sort, much to like but wish he was a tad darker in eye. 2 Whitley's Shipden Will Hay Strong headed dog but beautifully made, felt he could have been a little more enthusiastic here. 3 Wilsons' Shipden Authorised at Zawspring 4 Happs Beresford Beat the Clock with Emianna VD 6 (3) 1 Clarkes' Sh Ch Syferspring Stinger Shown in good condition and carrying his years lightly, well proportioned with shapely, strong neck, level topline, good bend of stifle, handles and moves well. 2 Merrys' Anacapa solo Flyer Sh CM Very good in outline and has all the essentials but did not travel as well as winner. 3 Long & Leemings Alanea Mercedes Special Open Qualified D or B 1 Long & Leemings Alanea Mercedes Typical Workmanlike specimen, moved much more capably than two. 2 Lockharts' Chetruda Krystal Rose nice individual who probably would have preferred to have been at home with her feet up in the circumstances.
