David Webster 1924 - 2017 We are very sad to report the death of our SESSS President, David Webster. David was taken ill the day after his 93rd birthday and died the following day – right up until that time he remained physically and mentally active and lived independently. His contribution to the SESSS was absolutely immense. He was co-opted onto the newly formed SESSS Committee in November 1974 and was elected Vice-Chairman in March 1977 and Chairman in March 1978. In April 2001 he succeeded Don Miller to the role of President, and throughout his entire association with the SESSS, he rarely missed any of our shows or AGMs. He has awarded CCs in our breed five times – his first appointment being in 1984 at LKA, his last in 1999 at Welsh Kennel Club. As most people will know, his main breed was the Beagle, where, under the Webline affix, he owned or bred several Champions and awarded CCs on many occasions, including Crufts in 1985 and, in recent years, he enjoyed the companionship of a W/H Miniature Dachshund. As well as being President of the Beagle Club, he was Dog World’s breed correspondent for Beagles for an astonishing 47 years. For those of us who had the privilege of knowing him, David always had something interesting to say. He wasn’t afraid of being controversial and his views were always worth listening to. He was a man of principle, always interested in other people and always a real gentleman. He will forever hold a special place in the history of the SESSS and will be very sorely missed by all of us. David’s funeral took place on 20th April at Bournemouth Crematorium. Liz Glass attended, as both a long-time friend and on behalf of the SESSS - unfortunately, news of his death didn’t reach us in time to publicise the funeral arrangements in advance - there are no doubt many who would have attended. No flowers, but donations can be made to the PDSA via Moody's Funeral Service, 405 Lymington Road, Highcliffe-On-Sea, BH23 5EN. Our deepest condolences go to David’s three daughters, Jane, Carol, Linda and their families at this very sad time.
