MAY NEWS
Well, I think you can say they’ve done it again! Thank you to Eve Whitely and Bev Nicholson for organising the latest very successful SESSS virtual charity show.
From 629 entries we raised £1600 with £625 each going to Alzheimer's and JSR and £350 to Red Cross Ukraine Appeal.
The Society wish to thank each and every exhibitor together with the sponsors and judges for supporting the event. We are extremely fortunate to have two dedicated committee members who give so much of their time to organise the show, not only by taking entries, but also in the efficiency of producing the results in a well presented, timely manner. Their next task is to send out prizes to the fortunate winners.
Once again the English Springer community have come together to show support for the deserved charities by showing your devotion to our wonderful breed. Thank you
With Crufts looming there was an opportunity to raise funds for the Ukraine appeal. Here are the thoughts from one of our members.... Like so so many of us, the news of the atrocities happening in Ukraine hit me hard. It left me feeling helpless and I wanted so badly to do something positive to aid the poor people in that stricken country, stricken through no fault of their own. After donating clothes, dog equipment and medical stuff I just felt it was nowhere enough. During yet another sleepless night with images of war running through my mind, I started thinking about making some snoods out of leftover sunflower fabric to sell to raise funds. (Leftover from the facemasks I made during lockdown to aid Cancer Research and MacMillan). And then I thought, I have leftover ribbon and heart embellishments from my armband and ringclip making days, I could make brooches and ribbons in the colours of the Ukrainian flag to raise funds. And then I found some other thin silk ribbons and turned them into bag charms. And then I thought, I’ll buy some fleece in yellow and blue and make up some tuggies. Many of these items were ordered for Crufts and with Steve’s help we were busy all morning with people collecting their goodies and giving generously. And now I am thinking, I have suitable fabrics in yellow and blue to make some tote bags, shopper bags, kit bags etc and I also have the stuff to make armbands and ringclips (all coming soon). The latest fundraiser is to sell all my unused dog grooming products which is going well. Thanks to the support and generosity of the show fraternity, plus a super donation of £108 by the SESSS from sales at the Crufts stand, we are currently up to donations of £1,020 with more orders coming in and more items being added all the time. I hope to reach a target of £2,000 which will be split between DEC (the Disasters Emergency Committee) and FCI so that we can help people and animals alike. Hon. Member, Wendy Walker.
